Prerequisites to Secure Proxmox VE Server With Let’s Encrypt SSL :
- A Proxmox VE installation on a public network.
- A valid DNS A record pointing to your Proxmox server.
Step 1: Login to the Proxmox VE Web Interface
Open your browser and navigate to the Proxmox VE web interface, Log in with your credentials.
Step 2: Add an ACME Account
Let’s Encrypt operates through the Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME). You need to register an ACME account for certificate management.
- Go to the Datacenter section in the Proxmox web interface.
- Navigate to ACME > Add.
- Fill in the following details:
- Name: Choose a name for the account.
- Email: Enter a valid email address for notifications.
- Select ACME Directory as Let’s Encrypt V2
- Accept the terms of service and click OK.

Once the certificate is successfully issued:
- Check the Certificates section in the web interface to confirm the new SSL certificate is active.
- Reload your browser to apply the changes.
- Expand the HTTPS details in your browser to view the new certificate.
